IMA Webinar: Foreign Malign Influence, Artificial Intelligence and the 2024 Election

August 29 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm EDT

The InfraGard NCR Chapter is pleased to offer a session on Foreign Malign Influence, Artificial Intelligence and the 2024 Election. America’s adversaries have historically targeted U.S. elections as part of their efforts to undermine the U.S., create division within American society and to influence how people vote and make decisions about their future elected leaders. Election 2024 will be no different as U.S. elections remain an attractive target for both nation-states and cyber criminals. This year, foreign malign influence operations are expected to increase especially with the advent of technology that makes it easier for those types of operations to play-out.

Learning Outcomes/Objectives: Join analysts from the FBI, DHS I & A, and the Elections Infrastructure-ISAC to learn:

  • What is foreign malign influence?
  • How does foreign malign influence compare to legitimate influence efforts?
  • What is and what is not foreign malign influence operations?
  • What are the differences in foreign malign influence efforts based on the country of origin e.g. China or Russia?
  • Who and what are the targets of foreign malign influence?
  • How law enforcement, academic institutions, local and regional entities are being subjects to foreign malign influence operations.
  • Discussion of specific examples of foreign malign influence operations.
  • How do adversaries use cyber-enabled means to influence or interfere with elections?
  • How do foreign malign influence threats converge with cyber and physical threat vectors?
  • How is AI being leveraged by adversaries to influence or interfere with elections?
  • What physical threats are being posed to election infrastructure and personnel? And how is this threat vector affected by the information environment?
  • A quick discussion of other areas of broad concern in terms of election security.
