Averting Targeted School Violence: An Analysis of Plots Against Schools

The U.S. Secret Service National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) pioneered the field of threat assessment with groundbreaking research on the behaviors of individuals who plan acts of targeted school violence at K-12 schools. Key findings indicate that establishing multidisciplinary threat assessment teams and fostering a culture of reporting concerning behaviors are essential steps in preventing targeted violence.

This presentation will cover NTAC’s research on interrupted plots intended to harm K-12 schools in the United States. It will also emphasize how communities can implement a multidisciplinary approach to identify, assess, and intervene with students who elicit concern—taking action as early as possible.
