The term “opting out” is heavily utilized in the OSINT world, but for those who have never attempted to remove personally identifying information (PII) online – Opt out may seem to be new terminology. Opting out is the process you would need to take to remove your data from search sites and data brokers that collect your data and sell them on the open internet to anyone. Prior to opting out though, you would first need to collect the data and the websites that harvest your data as well as keep a running log of URL’s where your data is found – only then would you want to target each site and begin the process.
This course will cover how to manage and protect your digital footprint. We will discuss methods for opting out of online search sites, such as name, address and telephone number search sites, as well as other methods for managing and protecting your personal information. We will discuss the importance of digital privacy, and how to ensure that your information is protected from unwanted access. Finally, we will discuss strategies for reducing the amount of personal data being shared online.
